Riding on Air: Tire Pressure and TPMS

Why inflation pressure matters, what underinflation changes, and how TPMS should be used.

Why pressure matters

Proper pressure improves handling, braking, fuel efficiency, and tire wear. Underinflated tires increase rolling resistance, heat buildup, and stopping distances. Overinflated tires reduce road contact and can create harsher ride quality and uneven wear.

  • >>Check pressure when tires are cold
  • >>Use the vehicle placard recommendation
  • >>TPMS is a warning system, not a replacement for checks
